DANCEExtended Enrichment Program (EEP)
Introduction To Theater Dance: (Grades K-12)
A class specializing in the basic movements used in a musical theater setting. Introduction to theater dance aims to better prepare students for performance on stage. In this class students will not only learn rudimentary movements, but most importantly, how these moves fit into a show where singing and acting are required. Students will experience different styles of theater dance by learning combinations from various musicals. Note: Singing is not required in the course but is always welcomed!
- Duration: 10 or 12 Week Class
- For Grades: K-12
- Time:
- Grades K-3: 1 hour per class
- Grades 4-12: 1 hour per class
- Class Maximum: 15 students per class
- Class Minimum: 8 students per class
Facility Requirements: Any good-sized room with a smooth, level floor will work. A gymnasium is fine, if you do not mind a bit of scuffing on the floor. A school stage is ideal! The only materials the school may need to supply would be a box of rosin, and this is only in the case of exceptionally slippery floors.
Required Materials: Students must wear clothes in which they can move. This means no jeans! Proper footwear includes sneakers, or dance shoes. No sandals will be permitted.
Introduction To Dance: (Grades K-12)
A class designed to introduce students to the basics of ballet, jazz, and tap. Four weeks will be spent on each of the above disciplines. In our first rotation, students will learn primary ballet barre exercises as well as a few essential movements. While studying jazz, students will become acquainted with a standard jazz class warm-up and several basic steps. During the tap session we will focus on isolating areas of the foot and learning fundamental tap steps. At the end of the jazz and tap sessions, students will learn short combinations in order to get a taste of what it means to really dance!
