 ACTING/THEATER—Extended Enrichment Program (EEP)
Kidz Acting Up! , (Grades K-3) If you have a little one who yearns to perform, this class is for you! Kidz Acting Up! is the first level of our Kidz Create! Specialty Theater Classes, and is geared towards expanding the creative capacities of tiny performers. Using stories children all over the world know and love, such as Little Red Riding Hood and tales by Dr. Seuss, the students will explore the physical and emotional life of characters at an age-appropriate level. Without realizing it, the young players will be learning the basics of acting as they discover for themselves how different characters move, sound, and feel!
*Auditioning, (Grades 4-12) This dynamic class will help you to make quick, creative, and active choices when faced with cold readings. It will not only help to strengthen your cold reading skills, but also help you figure out how to make choices that will captivate a director. This course focuses on Music Theater auditions, including how to pick the best audition songs for your voice and “type,” and will help you on your road to conquering dance auditions. After all, the best way to prepare for an audition is to be well-rounded!
*Characterization, (Grades 4-12) Do you understand what is needed to portray a truly honest emotional and physical character on stage? This class will teach you a tried-and-true method to approaching a role that will manifest itself in a more magnetic performance onstage. Using the Stanislavsky system, you will learn how to touch an audience by transforming your voice, face, and body into that of a specific character.
Improvisation, (Grades 4-12) Designed to train students to react quickly in any situation, improvisation is a key skill for any actor. This class will teach you how to act from the gut, listen to your instincts, and react intelligently under any circumstances. A fun class incorporating theater games, Improvisation will challenge your creativity, allowing for greater freedom of expression and lots of laughs!
*Shakespeare, (Grades 4-12) Where would classically trained actors be without the art of The Bard? This class is for actors looking for an introduction to the world of Shakespeare. They will learn how to speak and understand the language of Elizabethan England through performing some of Shakespeare’s most hilarious and tragic scenes.
*Music Theater Acting, (Grades 4-12) To act while singing and dancing, a performer needs different skills than when acting in straight theater. This course will teach young actors how to approach a song as if it were a monologue, as well as how to perform while singing and/or dancing without looking (or feeling) silly!
Cold Readings, (Grades 4-12) An entire course dedicated to developing a character in an instant! This class is a great supplement to the Auditioning class because it focuses purely on the art of cold readings. Cold readings are one of the most challenging things actors can face because they are required to create a character instantaneously. This class will teach the proper questions to ask when faced with an unfamiliar script, and also will hone observation skills so that the actor can decide how and when to move, speak, and react.
*Scene Study, (Grades 4-12) A continuation of the Characterization class, the actors that have already learned the basics of the Stanislavsky system will continue onto intermediate concepts and terminology. They will apply this new knowledge to scenes in which they work with partners and develop not only a strong, creative character, but also clear onstage relationships.
Public Speaking, (Grades 4-12) This course is designed to increase students knowledge and awareness of the theory and principles of public address. Students will be given several opportunities to develop their confidence as a public speaker as well as learn techniques to improve their performance and comfort level in front of an audience.
*School Play/Musical Directing, (Grades 4-12) We provide experienced directors to come in and produce a school play or musical for any grade level. From auditions to the very last show, we will enhance your performing arts department by making your play or school musical a roaring success!

- 1/2 hour - 1hr classes (full academic year courses)
- Class Maximum: 15 students per class 25 (full year courses)
- Class Minimum: 8 students per class

- Any good-sized room with chairs & tables.
- Chalk or White Wash Board
