MAKING IT ON BROADWAY INTENSIVE CAMP 2008

Dates: August 11 - 16

All selected campers will audition for a Broadway Casting director from "Telsey and Company" which is the hottest  agency casting for Broadway and National Touring today with such shows as Wicked, Hairspray, Rent, Disney’s High School Musical, Grey Gardens as well as Off-Broadway, TV and commercials.

40 Campers From The Metro Area Will Be Selected By Audition For An Opportunity To Work With A Full Faculty Of Seasoned Broadway Actors, Performance Coaches, Producers, Agents, and Casting Directors!

The “Making It On Broadway Camp” is a week long intensive camp brought to Northern Virginia from the heart of New York City!

40 campers will have the once in a lifetime opportunity to work with top Broadway professionals from every aspect of the business. These include choreographers, actors, fight directors, voice over artists, casting directors, music directors, composers, agents and producers, among others. Classes will focus on individual and group instruction. Every camper will also have the opportunity to audition for these professionals multiple times throughout the week and receive valuable feedback. Get ready for a fun and intensive week with a glimpse of the life of the Broadway community.

The Making It On Broadway Faculty

Jodie is currently starring in I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change in New York. She premiered on Broadway as the role of Cosette in Les Miserables while still attending NYU's Tisch School of the Arts (CAP 21), and later went on to play the role of Eponine. Her Broadway tour credits include the role of Bertrande in the Pre-Broadway tour of Martin Guerre (including runs at the Guthrie, Ahmanson, and Kennedy Center) the Narrator in the National Tour of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, and Grizabella in the National Tour of CATS, where she was the youngest person to ever portray the role. Jodie holds an M.F.A in Acting from U.C.L.A. and has taught at U.C.L.A. and The New School for Drama. Jodie is also the head of Musical Theater at the Seth Rigg's Vocal Camp in Los Angeles and holds her own Musical Theater intensive in New York City both in the Summer and Winter. She also currently coaches and teaches around the country and upcoming seminars are always available at her website www.jodielangel.com. Jodie is the co-author of the new book "MAKING IT ON BROADWAY: ACTORS' TALES OF CLIMBING TO THE TO THE TOP", with a forward by Jason Alexander and Idina Menzel.

Kim is currently the Music Supervisor of I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change having music directed shows in New York, Boston, San Francisco, San Diego, Reno, Chicago, and all over the country on the National Tour. He was also the Music Supervisor of the show Forbidden Vegas. B'way: Nine, High Society, In My Life. Off B'way: The Fantasticks, Forbidden Broadway (2001, 20th Anniversary, SVU), FAME, the musical. National Tours: Forbidden Broadway, Forbidden Hollywood. International: Phantom of the Opera. Regional: Guys and Dolls (Leon Rabin Award nomination- Best Musical Direction), When Pigs Fly, As Thousands Cheer, La Cage aux Folles, the World Premiere of Dr. Jeckyl and Mr. Hyde, Kiss of the Spider Woman, among many others. Kim has conducted/played for many talents such as Carol Channing, Liza Minnelli, Chita Rivera, Sam Harris, Oleta Adams, among others. He played, arranged and co-produced the 2001 Broadway Cares, Equity Fights Aids CD, Home for the Holidays. He is also a proud member of the Central Nyack Fire Department.

Jose is currently starring as "Chip Tolentino" in the Broadway company of "25 Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee" where he won a Drama Desk Award for (Best Ensemble). He was last seen on Broadway co-starring in Flower Drum Song (Ta). Other Broadway: Rent (Angel), Street Corner Symphony (Jessie-Lee), The King and I (Lun Tha). Off-Broadway: On the Town (Gabey, NYSF), Saturn Returns (Public). Regional: Martin Guerre (Guillaume, U.S. premiere, Guthrie Theater), Ballad of Little Jo (Steppenwolf Theatre, Jefferson nomination), Candide (Prince Theater, Barrymore nomination). Television: "Sex and the City" (with Margaret Cho.) Film: Hitch (starring Will Smith) and Unconscious. Albums: Cast recordings and self-titled solo album under the VIVA Philippines label. Paige first performed on Broadway in the original cast of Disney's Beauty and the Beast, featured as a 'Silly Girl' and eventually appearing as 'Belle.' Next, she was in the long-running Broadway hit Smokey Joe's Café. Her first original starring role came with Saturday Night Fever in 1999, when she played Stephanie Mangano. Recent credits also include A Chorus Line. Paige wrote and starred in her one-woman show, "The eX-Files," in NYC, which was featured on ABC's THE VIEW and which just sold out the Brook Arts Center in Bound Brook in November 2006. Last year, she had the honor of opening for Tony Bennett. Paige has also shared the stage with stars such as Lou Rawls, Ben E. King, Pam Tillis, Jane Monheit and Gladys Knight.  Paige was appointed in October 2006 to the position of First Vice President of Actors' Equity Association, the national union for theatrical performers.

Broadway triple threat Hollie Howard has appeared in the original casts of Hairspray, Mamma Mia! and Annie Get Your Gun with Reba McEntire. She has also appeared on the Tony Awards, Rosie O'Donnell, David Letterman and Conan O'Brien. She recently made guest appearances on Guiding Light and One Life To Live and finished shooting the films, First Breath and A Missed Engagement., and The Interview. Since leaving the lead role of Penny Pingleton in Hairspray, Hollie has been very active in the NYC and Regional Theatre scene. She's been involved in such projects as Four Seasons at Lincoln Center (with Rosie O'Donnell), How To Save The World and Find True Love in 90 Minutes (Off Broadway), Grease at Stages St. Louis (Sandy), A Chorus Line at Arkansas Rep (Sheila) and Plane Crazy where the New York Times recognized her standout performance as a combination of “...Lucy Ricardo with the uncorked sexuality of Goldie Hawn.” Hollie is currently playing Millie in Thoroughly Modern Millie at Carousel Dinner Theatre in Akron, Ohio. Her next projects are Sandy in Grease at The North Carolina Theatre and Millie in Thoroughly Modern Millie at Maine State Theatre.

    Each camper will have the opportunity to be coached on both old and new material to enhance their performance.  All campers will be guaranteed to walk out of the class with two or more new pieces.  Jodie & Broadway Music Director Kim Steiner will give each camper hand-picked audition material specific to their voice and personality!

    A class to work on pop/rock material which is becoming more common for Broadway auditions today!  Work with professionals and get great pop/rock song suggestions.
  • Acting Your Song
    What sets apart a good audition from a mediocre one is the ability to act your song!  Learn the tricks of the trade in lyric analysis and story telling so you can book the job!
  • Business
    A business class for actors with a professional Casting Director…  Learn the ins & outs and do’s and don’ts from what to wear to how to get an agent!
  • Voice
    Each camper will receive a private vocal lesson with a Broadway voice instructor!

    Campers will work with Broadway actors on cold readings and monologues.  Ever have trouble finding a monologue?  This class is for you! Go to auditions and nail it!

    Learn original Broadway choreography with a Broadway Actor!

    Parents will have their own time with the Broadway Faculty! Here you will be able to ask questions about the business from colleges, equity, salaries, and realities!
